Climb to Monte Zoncolan from the Ovaro side. Short, but gruelling stage due to very steep inclines in its final part.
The starting line is in Lienz (Austria), 35 km from the border with Italy. From San Candido/Innichen to Sesto/Sexten, then over the Monte Croce/Kreuzberg pass into the Belluno province: S. Stefano di Cadore, Sappada/Bladen, the Cima Sappada pass and the crossing into the Udine province. This is Italy's Carnic region (“Carnia”) with Forni Avoltri, Rigolato and Mieli.A brief, but steep climb takes you to Tualis.

Gentle ascent to Ravascletto, Sella Valcalda, Comeglians and finally Ovaro.
And now comes Europe's hardest climb: the ZONCOLAN.
This climb is 10 kilometres long; the average gradient is 12% but there are stretches where the incline reaches 22%: these plain figures speak volumes about the extreme toughness of this climb where everyone has to give his all to avoid dismounting.
