The fourth stage of the Giro 2007 starts from Salerno. This very nice southern city is full or cultural and historic sites and lies at the junction between the scenic Amalfi and Cilento coasts.

The stage route follows the Amalfi coast: since this scenic road keeps twisting and turning, cyclists need to be constantly on the look-out.

Vietri, Amalfi, Positano, then the crossing into the Naples province, the gentle climb to Picco S. Angelo, the fascinating landscape of the city of Sorrento and its peninsula. The route then proceeds towards Sant’Agnello, Piano and Castellamare di Stabia; it crosses into the Salerno province and touches the populous towns of Angri, Pagani, Nocera Inferiore and Mercato S. Severino before entering the Avellino province and proceeding towards the final climb to the Madonna di Montevergine.

First uphill finish. The first 80 kilometres involve a tour of the Sorrento peninsula and include a GPM climb to Picco S. Angelo. There follows a descent towards Sorrento; after Castellamare di Stabia the profile remains flat until the intermediate sprint in Castel S:Giorgio. After the climb to Cenzi and Avellino, it's time for the final ascent: a 17-km climb with a very regular gradient of 5%.
