Intense Training

Today you will be training on a truly exciting course in the Asolo hills, in the province of Treviso, amidst the vineyards of Prosecco Doc and the famous Veneto villas. It’s a 34 km ride with a total height difference of 663 m. The session starts in Pederobba and there’s really very little flat ground.

The first 10 km immediately warm up the leg muscles in a quick succession of uphill and downhill sections of country roads winding through the green hills. These are the places that formed the back-drop for several dramatic events during the First World War, near the Piave River where Italian Alpine troops fought the Austro-Hungarian Kaiserjager.

The first few km go quickly, but the real climb is all in the last part; a spectacular climb, both from a technical standpoint and for the splendid countryside, with an average slope of 3.6% and a maximum of around 10% leading to the top of the hill and Asolo (a stage finish in the Giro d’Italia 2010), one of the most beautiful little towns in Italy, steeped in history, art, culture and thousand-year traditions.
